Treat without overtreating

Imperial Prostate are world leaders in focal treatment of prostate cancer - focal therapy is effective at destroying cancer with significantly reduced side effects compared to traditional approaches.

Rezūm is a new treatment which injects steam to shrink overgrown prostate tissue - we are one of the only teams approved to offer this treatment in the UK.

Imperial Prostate is also a leading academic centre for robotic surgery in the UK - our team aims to provide patients with accurate information about robotic surgery for prostate cancer.

  • High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)

HIFU for prostate cancer is a minimally invasive treatment that can be used to ablate or destroy areas of tissue within the prostate gland.

HIFU uses ultrasound pulses which are concentrated to an area the size of a grain of rice within the prostate gland. It is only that focal point which is heated to temperatures which cells in the body cannot survive (at least 65 to 70 degrees centigrade and commonly 80-90 degrees centigrade).

  • Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy for prostate cancer is a minimally invasive treatment that can be used to ablate or destroy areas of tissue within the prostate gland.

Cryotherapy uses extremely low temperatures, as low as -40 to -100 degrees centigrade, that free areas of the prostate gland. Only the cells within ablative freezing temperatures are destroyed whilst tissue elsewhere in the prostate or surrounding the gland are not affected.

  • Rezum

Rezūm is a new treatment - an alternative to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) - which injects steam to shrink overgrown prostate tissue. The entire procedure typically takes under 30 minutes. Rezūm treatment reduces the risk of associated complications such as bleeding, incontinence and sexual dysfunction.

  • Robotic Prostatectomy

Robotic guidance offers surgeons unparalleled precision when conducting complex procedures. Compared with traditional open surgery, by utilising advanced keyhole techniques patients experience reduced bleeding and scarring, improved recovery rates and a shorter hospital stay.
